Tuition Assistance Information / Financial Aid FAQS TUITION ASSISTANCE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. Who may apply for tuition assistance? A. All students from K3 through 8th grade may apply. Interested parents must request a Tuition Assistance packet from the SPA Admissions office. Q. How is need assessed? A. St. Paul’s Academy utilizes an independent agent, the School and Student Service for financial Aid (SSS), which is overseen by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). SSS provides member schools with an objective methodology for calculating a family’s ability to contribute to educational expenses. SSS does not make an award, but using the information provided by parents, suggests appropriate guidelines for the school to make an award based on a family’s particular situation and the school’s resources. Q. Is there a specific $ amount that all awarded families are responsible for paying to St. Paul’s Academy? A. Yes, families are still responsible for 50% of tuition no matter what award is given. Q. What is the SPA school code? A. This code is 4588 and is to be used on the Parent’s Financial Statement (PFS) line 7a. Q. If parents are divorced/separated, who is required to complete the PFS? A. Each parent is required to fill out a PFS and send the required materials to SSS in Princeton, NJ. Q. Do we have to complete more that one PFS if we have more than one child applying for tuition assistance? A. No – up to 3 children are allowed on one PFS. Q. What if we own a farm or our own business? A. You must download the business/farm statement from NAIS and submit to SPA. Q. What if we miss the submission deadline? A. We do not reserve funds for late applicants after initial awards have been made therefore you will not be eligible for the current school years tuition assistance. Q. Do we have to re-apply for tuition assistance each year? A. Yes, each year is a stand alone year. Q. When will tuition assistance be awarded? A. It can take up to a month for SSS to finalize its calculations. All tuition assistance awards will be communicated in writing indicating a decision. Q. After an award is made, what is the next step for the family? A. The family must inform SPA that they accept or reject the tuition assistance offer. This must be communicated in writing and submitted to the SPA Tuition Assistance Committee.
